Mechanical Engineer – Waterloo ON

They are leading the charge to tackle plastic waste globally through our pioneering nanocoating solutions for sustainable packaging at a scale and speed never seen before in the market. Position Overview:

We are recruiting a passionate and experienced Mechanical Engineer who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges and is keenly interested in prototyping, machine design, and manufacturing. This individual possesses a solid background in mechanical or mechatronics engineering, evidenced by a Bachelor of Science degree or a technical diploma in these fields. They bring at least 2-3 years of industry experience to the table, during which they have honed their skills in designing, building, and implementing features on high-speed machinery and heavy machine assembly.

  • Build prototypes and testing platforms that function with efficiency and simplicity to support the development of Nfinite’s coating systems.
  • Build a high-precision, high-speed machine that runs reliably and efficiently, easily manufactured, assembled, and maintained with Nfinite’s engineering team.
  • Implement additional features on Nfinite’s roll-to-roll machines.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers and scientists to identify and rectify issues related to Nfinite’s systems from testing and user feedback.
  • Use a first-principles approach to break complex engineering problems down to the fundamentals and create the best yet simple solutions.
  • Push the boundary of machine design to develop the highest-performance nanocoating system for mass production on the market.
  • Create and maintain documents such as assembly drawings, BOM, user requirements and SOPs.

Position Requirements:

  • Willing to relocate to Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
  • 2-3 years of industry hands-on experience working as a mechanical engineer.
  • Bachelor of Science degree or technical diploma in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Eligible to register or are registered at Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) as an EIT or P.Eng.
  • Demonstrated prototyping skills using limited resources to produce creative and innovative solutions.
  • Knowledgeable in fluid dynamics, simulation, design for manufacturing, design for assembly, and manufacturing techniques, such as sheet metal fabrication, 3D printing, machining, laser cutting, metalworking, casting, powder metallurgy, etc.
  • Familiar with heavy machine design, assembly, and manufacturing.
  • Ability to own a project that brings all components of an electromechanical system from conception to life through brainstorming, designing, sourcing, prototyping, building, testing, validating, iterating, and integrating.
  • Comfortable using 3D CAD software, such as OnShape (preferred), SolidWorks, NX and Catia, to design components, produce drawings, and build assemblies.
  • Thrive in working with a lean team in a fast-paced start-up environment with experience building initiatives or projects from scratch.
  • Exhibit communication skills through written, verbal, and graphical presentation techniques.
  • Driven to execute and create results with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and priorities effectively.
  • Can embrace the undefined path and navigate through complexities with an exploratory and creative mindset to identify new and innovative solutions.
  • Inquisitive and stay on top of best practices and trends in engineering and manufacturing.

Bonus for:

  • Experience with full product development cycle, program management, change order controls, Esupplier industrialization engineering and product lifecycle management.
  • Familiar with microcontrollers and PLC systems.
  • Experience with system/equipment scaling for mass production and roll-to-roll web handling manufacturing process.
